SURF Professional Staff

Luz M. Jiménez Ruvalcaba Ph.D. (she/her)
Dr. Jiménez Ruvalcaba is Associate Director for Graduate Outreach and Recruitment and SURF Program Director. She is passionate about interrogating inequity and removing barriers to access for historically underrepresented communities. A former high school teacher, Dr. Jiménez Ruvalcaba holds a PhD in Modern Thought and Literature from Stanford University. In her free time, Luz watches basketball, loves to read, goes to Zumba, and entertains her cat Cheto. Born in Tepatitlán, Jalisco, México, she is from Inglewood, CA.

Britney Tran (she/her)
Britney is the 2024 SURF Resident Fellow and a coterminal master's student in Computer Science, having also done her undergrad at Stanford in Computer Science. She loves exploring spaces intersecting tech and social justice and is passionate about accessible education -- one of the many reasons for joining SURF! She is excited for all of the memories and learning experiences that will be shared across the community, and can't wait to get to know everyone! In her free time, Britney loves playing volleyball, hiking, bullet journaling, and trying new foods with her friends!

Chrystalen Stambaugh (he/they)
Chrystalen is a coterminal Master's student at Stanford in the Materials Science and Engineering department who hopes to pursue a career in education DEI and research. He's excited to guide students through the ups and downs of their first research project this summer as the SURF program coordinator! In his free time this summer, you'll probably find him writing poetry by Meyer Green or in his room trying to learn to play the banjo he was recently gifted.
