Fee Waivers
An application fee should not stand between you and your future degree. If you are considering Stanford graduate programs and need assistance with the application fees, consider applying for a fee waiver.
We especially encourage such applications from first-generation, low-income students, and students from systemically marginalized backgrounds who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
Stanford Engineering is committed to increasing the diversity of our student body. With this commitment in mind, we are able to offer a limited number of fee waivers to applicants experiencing financial hardship. There are a few ways prospective graduate students can apply for fee waivers:
GRE Fee Reduction Voucher
The Educational Testing Service (ETS) offers a limited number of GRE Fee Reduction Vouchers for college seniors and unenrolled college graduates who meet eligibility requirements.
Program Participation Fee Waiver
If you have participated in a qualifying graduate school preparation program or research internship such as McNair, Amgen, or Leadership Alliance, you may also qualify for an additional type of fee waiver.
School-Based Fee Waiver
Applicants who do not qualify for the GRE or Program Participation waivers can request an application fee waiver directly from Stanford Engineering. We especially encourage first-generation, low-income students, and underrepresented students who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, DACA/Undocumented to apply. Please allow at least 10 business days for processing.
“On the day I submitted my application I thought that even if I was accepted, my family and I could not afford the cost. Looking back, I’m so glad I didn’t let that stop me from applying.”
