Stanford Summer Engineering Academy

Main content start

The Stanford Summer Engineering Academy (SSEA) is a fully funded, four-week summer program that welcomes a cohort of incoming first-year students to campus every August for a dynamic academic and residential experience. Through labs, lectures, and excursions on and off campus, students are well equipped to take on their freshman year.

We seek to illuminate the brilliance of students who have been systemically marginalized in engineering. We welcome applications from all students, including womxn, first generation and/or low income, first in their family to study/pursue an engineering degree, or those from environments with limited exposure to engineering curriculum.

SSEA students spend their evenings and weekends engaged in dorm activities and trips around the Bay Area; you can find them fountain hopping, hiking the Dish, painting in the lounge, singing karaoke, hosting movie  marathons, and exploring all that campus has to offer.

SSEA Objectives

Give students a real feel for life on campus with discussions on how to transition to college, and the opportunity to bond with fellow cohort members. Students also have the chance to explore campus and the Bay Area.

Prepare students for college-level engineering studies by engaging them with computer science and math classes, lab projects, and resource fairs.

Challenge students to think critically through sessions exploring technological impacts in society, visits with industry partners, and daily guest lectures by Stanford faculty from the School of Engineering.
